Reiki is a unique way of healing that has been
around for centuries. It was kept a secret for the select
few for a long time and fortunately it is now available to be learned by anyone who is interested. Reiki is a very powerful way of changing our lives gently and lovingly. It can be used for personal healing or for those working with people in the healing field as it is a great adjunct to other modalities or it can be used as a stand alone system. Reiki is a way of connecting with God, Spirit, Source, Universe, or whatever you might call It and opening up to and allowing yourself to be a channel for God’s unending flow of Love and Light to flow through you to your hands. We all have the capacity within us to allow this flow to pass through us, we just have to activate it, which is done through a set of attunements passed on from teacher to student . As a Reiki practitioner, Reiki is a way of life as one learns Reiki and incorporates the 5 spiritual principals of Reiki into one’s life. It helps one be more at peace in our daily life and allows us to pass on that peace to all we meet.
When you are attuned to Reiki you realize that you can heal yourself and others so they may attain a place that is more peaceful and thus we all bring more peace to the world.
As was said by Course in Miracles lecturer Tom Carpenter ” to have peace we must first be peace.”

Reiki is thought to have been developed thousands of years ago in the Far East, however, it was lost for thousands of years until it was rediscovered in the mid 1800s by a Japanese theologist, Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui was on a journey of discovering the healing secrets of Jesus and the Buddha. Dr. Usui was intrigued by the stories found within the Bible and the Buddhist stories about the many extraordinary healings attributed to both Jesus and Buddha and remembered that both said that whatever they could do, everyone else could do as well. He went to a Buddhist monastery in India to study the original Sanskrit teachings about healing modalities that went back 2500 years. While he eventually found the formula for healing, he had no way of activating it and decided that he needed to do something to accomplish it. After 21 days of fasting and meditation he received the first attunement and each of the symbols and the information about each of them in a sacred initiation. He was also directed at how to activate it in others. From that point on Dr. Usui had the ability to transfer the Reiki energy and to assist others in doing the same. Dr. Usui then set out on a course to share this wonderful universal healing technique with everyone who he came into contact with and passed it on to practitioners in Japan and eventually it traveled through Hawaii before making its way to the mainland of the United States. Reiki is actually a Japanese word meaning “Universal Life Energy” and that is exactly what the entire technique is about: sharing Universal Life Energy with others.

SPECIFICS ABOUT REIKI

There are three basic levels to Reiki. The primary, secondary and Master levels. The primary level consists of a simple attunement of the student using the first of the Reiki symbols. As a result of this attunement the student becomes able to actually do “hands on” Reiki treatment on family members and herself/himself. The student is instructed in basic hand positioning over the body to obtain the best results and is also instructed on the history and philosophy of Reiki. Part of the day is dedicated to practicing the use of the treatments on each other and feeling the results.

Often a student will notice a feeling of “heat”coming from his or her hands as they do their treatment on themselves or another. This feeling of “heat” is normal and natural and is a good indication of the fact that certain energy is passing between the hands and the part of the body being worked on. Sometimes, a person being worked on will feel such strong heat that they want to feel the practitioner’s hands to see if its coming from them. Usually, they will find no increase in the practitioner’s hands at all. The irony is that the “heat” is real, but difficult to determine where it comes from and where its going. Its just a by-product of the Reiki energy flowing between the two people. It is this Reiki energy that is actually channeled from the Universal force above down through the crown of the head and then out through the hands of the practitioner that does the healing work and not the practitioner at all. The practitioner is merely a channel through which the energy travels. The most important part or the practitioner is to step out of the way and allow the energy to go where its needed, recognizing that Source always knows where the healing energy is needed and it will go there on its own whether its related to the physical, emotional, mental or spiritual levels.

Some people who are about to have Reiki done on them want the practitioner to “do it on my shoulder” or “make sure to get my lower back” believing that the practitioner must touch the place where it hurts to get results. The unusual part about Reiki is that the energy goes where it needs to go and it does it on its own, regardless of where the practitioner’s hands are placed.

SECOND DEGREE REIKI

Second Degree Reiki level requires that the primary level be completed first and practiced for a period of time so that the primary practitioner has become familiar with the hand positions and “stepping aside” while doing the process.

During the Second Degree Reiki class students will be attuned to two intermediate symbols which will assist them in providing even deeper healing abilities for themselves and for people they work with and it also provides them with the added ability to do distance healing. The secondary symbols actually “turn up the heat” and increases the flow of energy that flows through the practitioner and thus Second Degree practitioners find their hands become much hotter and the healing much more effective than before. There will be hands-on practice using the new symbols and practicing them on each other until they have been perfected.

THIRD DEGREE REIKI
MASTER TEACHER

The most exciting part of this degree is as you take this class, you’ll actually be passing the Reiki attunements on to others so that they can use it. As part of the class you will be taught the sacred attunement symbols, practice passing them on to others and you will be given an even greater “heat level” when you do the work on others. All of this happens in a sacred ceremony passed on over generations of Reiki Masters and practitioners

Once the sacred symbols have been passed on to the students, there is a prolonged practice session using each of the symbols until each student knows them by heart and can use them without having to refer to any outside source. Then the students are given the opportunity to practice on each other using these symbols until they become proficient and confident in their use. The person who chooses to take the Third Degree Level also chooses to make a commitment to the Reiki way of life. That way of life is a dedication to peace, patience, harmony and love as one is now a reflection of Reiki at all times and thereby a model for others on how to live in this world.
