Have you ever wondered where most of the kindness and compassion have gone?
Do you remember how drivers changed their ways for a day or so after 911? Suddenly, people were extending the right of way and being kind for no discernable reason other than they were scared and they wanted to be kinder to others. It felt good. In fact, it felt great. Unfortunately, it didn't last long, but it was a good example of how life could be again.
What if we all changed the way we act with one another and offered more kindness and compassion - without expecting anything in return? What a thought!
What if you simply make the choice to start being more kind and compassionate towards others? Now - without waiting for anyone else to join you. You be the one to start making a difference in the world. How would that feel? I guarantee it will feel great.
The Course in Miracles has a simple statement in it that "the more you give, the more you receive" and I've discovered its true. In fact, its one of the reasons I sign off with "Blessings" at the end of each article and letter. As Tom Carpenter said during a wedding ceremony "You ask for my blessings, I ask for yours. Be ye blessed as ye bless."
The Dali Lama, when asked about how he practices his religion, simply stated he "practices kindness."
Mother Theresa, when offered to be put on television so she could share her message more widely with the world declined and simply said "Go out into the world tomorrow and tell one person 'you're not alone" and that will be enough."
That's all we want to know - that we're not alone - that it will all be alright and there's nothing to fear in life. Remember, the opposite of fear is love.
If you want to truly make a change in the world, start by sharing your loving kindness and compassion with everyone you meet. Assure them they are never alone, never have been, never will be. God is always with them, regardless of what religion they practice or even if they practice none.
God is omnipresent, so, by definition, you can never be alone. In fact, when you are physically all alone and everything is completely quiet, that's when you have direct access to speak to God and God will respond.
You are never alone and you are always loved. That's the truth.
So be kind and compassionate today. Not because someone else "deserves it" or needs it, but because its simply a good thing to do. In other words, its good to be good just for goodness sake. It doesn't matter who you are good to or kind and compassionate to - it will make a big difference to them and to you.
Do it with an open heart and it will always turn out right. Don't do it as an agenda. Simply do it as the situation presents itself and don't be attached to the outcome. Kindness is its own reward.
Its so simple and easy. Share your heart, smile, laughter, and kindness with others. You'll be glad you did - and so will they.
Blessings,
Ted
