The Power of Choice
The Power of Choice

I saw a license plate on a car last Wednesday morning while driving and it made me smile. It said: "ITSUP2US" which said it all. If we honestly want the world to change to a more peaceful loving place it is up to each of us to make wise choices each moment as situations manifest that are more loving and compassionate and the world will follow that direction. It all begins with each of us and how we interact with our spouses, children, parents, friends, neighbors in our immediate circle. That then moves outward like the ripples in a pond when you toss a stone into it and the way in which you reacted to a situation influences everyone in your zone of influence. That then moves up the line to all of their circles of influence and eventually the world is positively influenced. You may call it the Power of One in the All.

We can chose to live the Truth of who we are or we can live the Illusion of who we think we are. We can chose to live the Truth of what actually happened to us or we can live the illusion of we thought happened based upon our prior experiences.

The Truth is: at the deepest core, we are pure beings of unconditional Love, Peace and Light. When we see ourselves as anything other than that it is just our illusion of who we think we are (such as a victim, loser, etc.). We can choose to recognize that we are all the same no matter what color, shape, size or heritage we come from and in that knowing we find Oneness and Unity instead of separation.

The greatest barriers to accepting this simple but profound truth are fear, judgment, criticism, frustration, doubt, anger, intolerance, impatience, expectation and self-gratification (the "me-me-me" syndrome). It is time we each look at what action we take or do to see if it is for the betterment of all - not just for ourself.

Jesus once said: "Where your heart is, there your treasure lies." The greatest treasure in life is love. Love of self, love of the Divine, love of others. Love is the most powerful force for change. It casts out fear, obliterates hate and shatters tyranny and deception.

Let us use this Season of Fall to release the clutter of negative thoughts, beliefs and patterns of our mental and emotional closets in our "house of mind" and use it as an opportunity to do some mental Fall cleaning. Just as we use this time to clean up our gardens and physical homes to ready them for the winter, we are offered the opportunity to do the same for our minds.

"And if I may be so bold to offer my last piece of advice for someone seeking and needing to make changes in their life—If you don’t like how things are, change it! You’re not a tree. You have the ability to totally transform every area in your life—and it all begins with your very own power of choice."

Jim Rohn

Blessings to all on this beautiful Fall day!

"The reason man may become the master of his own destiny, is because he has the power to influence his own subconscious mind."

- Napoleon Hill

We just returned from an awesome Saturday in Boston, where we attended a gathering with two very wonderful beings: Tom and Linda Carpenter, incredible teachers of the "way of love." The Carpenters speak on "A Course In Miracles" and on how to put the Universal principals of love, forgiveness and personal responsibility into practice. By doing so, we are able to move from the pain of separation into living a life of Peace, Unity and Oneness.

Each and every moment of the day we are given the opportunity to choose which path to walk. We can either choose the heavy, difficult path of pain, anger, judgement and separation or we can choose the easier, lighter path of love, joy, happiness, Compassion, Oneness and Unity.

You get to make that choice each moment of the day and what you choose is what you will actually manifest in your daily life experience. Each time you are faced with an experience, which you perceive is not of love, you can either choose to feel judgement, anger and fear or you can choose to feel love, freedom, forgiveness and safety. It is truly up to you how you choose to live each experience.

Blessings of love, peace and light to you all.

  • Butternut Squash Soup (4-6 servings)

    1 3-4 lb butternut squash
    1 onion, chopped
2 teaspoons ground curry (add more to taste)
    1 tablespoon butter
½-1 teaspoon granular Kelp (I use it instead of salt)
    1 cup orange juice
3-4 cups vegetable/chicken broth (depending on the consistency of the soup you like)
    2-3 pears, peeled and chopped
    plain nonfat yogurt
    cinnamon

Cut the Butternut squash in half and place it on a baking dish with a little water on the bottom. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until softened.

In pot, saute the chopped onion with a little butter or oil until soft and glossy, about 3-5 minutes. Mix in ground curry and kelp.

Scoop out the meat of the squash and add to pot with onions. Add 1 chopped pear. Add orange juice and broth. Stir well.

Carefully puree the soup in a blender in batches or with a stick blender right in the pot. Be very careful, the soup is hot.

Pour into individual soup dishes and add a dollop of yogurt and chopped pears. For a finishing touch, sprinkle cinnamon on top.

    More on Kelp:

Kelp is a seaweed and is packed with trace minerals, especially iodine and iron, as well as zinc, boron, chromium, selenium and tin, just to name a few.

Seaweed also contains a high level of vitamins and in particular, vitamin B12 - a vital nutritional element usually found only in meat.

Seaweed has been used as food as far back as 800 B.C. in China. Seaweed (known also as Sea Kelp or Algae) is rich in essential minerals, trace elements, amino acids and vitamins. It is interesting to know that seawater has almost the same proportion of minerals as the human blood.

We have replaced the use of salt with Kelp in our family as we found it a healthier choice.

  • The Two Wolves

I love this Native American story as I feel it illustrates beautifully the power of the choice we have to created the world we live in.

A Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt.

He said to his grandson, "I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart.

One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one."

The grandson asked him, "Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?"

The grandfather answered: "The one I feed."
