How many times have you found yourself doing just about anything other than what you have to do? It happens to all of us more than we like to admit. We usually call this procrastination. I call it fear. Why fear? Because in my experience most of us have many fears that we just don't recognize as such and those fears are really projections of our past experiences into the future by our mind. You see, when you've had a painful or even just an uncomfortable experience, part of you silently says "I'll never let that happen again."
So your mind then insures that it never happens again by anticipating whenever it could happen and it does whatever it has to in order to keep you safe and comfortable. Unfortunately, whenever your mind has decided that its not safe for you to be rejected in some fashion or becomes concerned that you might fail at something, it will find just about anything else for you to do other than the very thing you have to do. Hence - hesitation and procrastination set in. At least by procrastinating you're putting off any discomfort and you may even avoid it completely once the "danger" passes.
Yet, in reality, the longer you procrastinate, the worse the situation usually gets in life. Just think about doing your income taxes. You know you'd usually rather procrastinate then do them, right? Yet, as April 15th looms ever closer, the pressure mounts until somewhere around April 10th -14th things get so stressful that you feel forced to do your taxes and you may or may not get them done by the 15th. Many people never get them done on time and then suffer from further anxiety and stress because they then have to deal with the consequences of their inaction. And it all comes from fear.
Another example is when you go to pick up the phone to make a contact or seek a referral from somebody and suddenly you find something else to do. Its really the fear of rejection you're feeling and the worry that they may say "no". That usually harkens back to when you were young and asked for something from a parent or somebody else and they said "no". That same feeling of rejection and not being welcome comes over you and the first thing that you want to do is go hide. Avoid that feeling at all costs. So, we wind up going on the internet looking for email, surfing YouTube or any number of other things to avoid that potential feeling of rejection that we believe is just waiting on the other end of the phone for us.
So, how can you eliminate the fear so you can lessen your procrastination? Simple. Use EFT on it and tap on the issue. The words would sound something like these:
"Even though I can't get started doing what I have to do, I love and accept myself nonetheless."
"Even though I'm afraid of how things are going to turn out, I accept myself anyway."
"I am afraid of rejection and don't want to even start anything as a result, because I'm afraid of how badly things are going to go for me. Yet, I love and accept myself nonetheless."
"I just know I'm going to fail, yet I love and accept myself fully and completely anyway."
"I can't get started on anything because I'm so afraid of how things are going to go for me. Yet, I love and accept myself fully and completely nonetheless."
"I am such a procrastinator because I'm always afraid of rejection. Yet, I love and accept myself fully and completely anyway."
"How can I call people to sell them something when I don't feel comfortable? I'm frightened to death of rejection and I know if I make those calls, I'm going to get rejected. So I just won't make those calls. Yet, I love and accept myself fully and completely nonetheless."
"I'm worried all the time. I feel like such a failure most of the time. Yet I can't tell anyone how I'm feeling and I feel all alone as a result. Yet, somehow I'll muddle through and love myself nonetheless."
"Even though I feel stressed all the time and am always worried about rejection, I love and accept myself fully and completely."
The idea is to collapse your worries and fears so that you'll feel comfortable approaching potential customers and clients or do whatever else you'd like to do, but are putting off. By eliminating the fears and worries, you'll find yourself spending much more time in the present moment instead of in the past or the future thought processes. Whenever you're in the present moment, you'll notice there is a lot less to keep you from doing whatever it is you've set out to do. When the fear of rejection is resolved, procrastination will become a thing of the past in short order and you'll feel better about yourself and your purpose in life.
