TIPS FOR HOLIDAY HANGOVERS
Yes, that’s right, we’re offering some tips to those who tip more than one back at this time of year and wind up with a headache or more the next day. These are some general suggestions that we have used before and some that are nutritional in nature. Use one or all depending on how bad your headache is on January 1st. First, we’ve discovered that using Emotional Freedom Technique can be very beneficial for releasing a hangover. To use EFT for a hangover, you might try any or all of the following words or phrases while tapping the various meridian access points repeatedly, click on the illustrated manual above, if needed:
“Even though I have this terrible headache, I accept myself.” “Even though I can’t open my eyes without getting dizzy, I love and accept myself.” “Even though my stomach is aching and my head hurts, I accept and love myself.” “How could I have ever drunk so much when I know better? But I love and accept myself just the same.” “Even though I’m angry at myself for drinking so much and letting my (loved one) down, I love and accept myself anyway.” “Even though I feel like I made a fool of myself last night, I love myself and accept myself nonetheless.” “Even though I hate myself right now and don’t feel very accepting of my behavior, I accept myself and love myself anyway” “Even though I can’t stand all this tapping right now on my head while I have this headache and can’t believe I’m doing this stupid technique, I’ll do just about anything to get rid of this headache, and I love myself and accept myself, headache and all.” Use a reminder phrase or word while tapping all of the individual points such as, "this headache," "I'm angry at myself," etc.
Make sure to determine how bad your headache pain or other pain is (using a scale of 1 - 10) before starting so you’ll know how far you’ve come when you’re done. We’ve found this to be very effective “the morning after” for all sorts of maladies. Try it, you’ll like it.
AIDES FOR HANGOVERS
For those of you who want a more nutritional approach, we also offer the following suggestions to help that foggy feeling. When one drinks alcohol the body burns it up at a very high rate and as a result, your inner chemistry becomes “acidic”, which means your Ph (acidity/alkalinity) also declines. Normally, everyone maintains a Ph of about 7.36 which is a little higher than neutral which is 7.1.
Remember, Alcohol in these forms have the following Ph:
wine is 2.0;
beer is 1.0-2.0;
liquor is 1.0-2.0.
That means that every time you take a drink of alcohol you are lowering the Ph level and the more you drink the more acidity builds up within you. This can make your body very uncomfortable and can cause headaches and other problems.
For every one part of acid taken into the body, you need about 20 parts of alkalinity to make up for it. That means you must take in a much greater amount of alkaline or base substances the next day to make up for the acidic substances you’ve already taken in the night before. So, the next morning you can start with a full glass of water with fresh lemon juice in it. First, the lemon will help to flush out the impurities in your body and next, since it carries a Ph of 7.5, it will help increase the Ph level in your body.
You can also use 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper (Ph 7.0) in a full glass of water filled with lemon juice and a little honey (to taste) to reduce your discomfort. The same concoction using Cayenne Pepper in a warm cup of tea with the lemon is also known to reduce sore throats as well, so you can take care of both if you wish.
Ginger (preferably freshly sliced) is also known for reducing the nausea that sometimes accompanies hangovers. Use 1/2 inch of fresh ginger in an 8 ounce cup of hot water or room temperature water for some additional relief.
Fresh squeezed fruits or vegetables can also be very healing. Carrot/Spinach juice can be very helpful because it has a high Ph and is nutritious as well. You can also buy fresh squeezed Orange juice or Grapefruit juice since they are also high in nutrition as well as have high Ph.
Ted has an old time favorite of his that more than likely has no nutritional value at all but has always worked for him in the "old days," which is a Vanilla Egg Cream made in a diner. Ask for it to be made with a little extra Vanilla syrup and it will settle your stomach very effectively.
We hope that all of these thoughts will be useful if you have a little too much to drink and you experience the adverse effects of it. We wish you all a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year in 2005!!
